A805: Learn to Play the Carillon! in Splash! Fall 2011 (Oct. 01, 2011)
Do you want to discover first-hand the world's largest and loudest musical instrument? Do you want to give a concert for everyone within a two-mile radius? Then this is definitely the class for you! A carillon is a set of tuned bells played with handles and pedals arranged like a keyboard. During the first hour, you will learn some simple pieces on an electronic practice keyboard, and during the second hour, you will get to climb the bell tower and perform your piece on UChicago's Laura Spelman Rockefeller Memorial Carillon. Our carillon is the second-largest in North America with 72 bells weighing 100 tons.
