ALEXANDER NAYLOR, Geographer & Relentless Doodler

Major: Geography

College/Employer: University of Chicago

Year of Graduation: 2010

Picture of Alexander Naylor

Brief Biographical Sketch:

I’m a fourth-year geography major at the U. of C. This means that I find rather horrifying things like desertification, tsunamis and asteroid impacts rather delightful to study. I'm also into languages with multiple alphabets, the physics of mass transportation, and kinetic sculpture. In my spare time I play cello in the Middle East Music Ensemble, co-edit a student newsmagazine, and wander around Chicago. I’m thinking of becoming an architect, urban planner, or professional geographer.

If the call comes, though, I can buttle with the best of 'em

In this course, we’ll look at the forces that drive cities, from the massive metropolises of the developing world to your very own Chicago. We’ll cover such topics as economic geography, population, transportation, and architecture. In addition, we’ll also look at the role of design and planning in urban development and try a little ourselves.

H380: How to Dry Up a River in Splash! Fall 2009 (Oct. 03, 2009)
