Brief Biographical Sketch:

I am from San Diego and I am 20 years old. I am an incoming third year at the University of Chicago and my major is Psychology. Swimming was for me a long term commitment that taught me how to manage and appreciate time. Dedication and determination are two traits of mine that I also attribute to my 14 years of swimming. I was on the varsity swim team first year and broke a school record in backstroke. Currently, I am a manager of a restaurant and I am a tutor for the associate dean of students' 11 year old son this summer. I have recently come to the conclusion that I have a passion for helping people understand the world in which we live and that I have the patience and devotion to have the satisfaction of helping someone discover something new. Because I consider myself to be a rational person and a practical learner, I think this opportunity would be just what I need to teach me how to better teach others.

A430: The Psychology behind Photography in Splash! Fall 2009 (Oct. 03, 2009)
Have you ever wondered why good photos look good? Or why certain things are pleasing to the eye, even if they are arranged in a common manner, while others aren't? In this class, we'll talk about the psychology behind a good photo and discuss techniques that will make your photos better: how to pick the correct aperture and shutter speed, how to frame a scene for the best photo, etc. After that, we will go outside and actually take photos ourselves and then sit in groups, share our photos and explain what we learned about connecting psychology with photography.
