Brief Biographical Sketch:

Hey everyone! A little bit about myself: I am from Edmond, Oklahoma, and graduated this past summer with a degree in Biological Sciences with a Specialization in Neuroscience and a Minor in Computational Neuroscience. I am currently working as a research technologist in Dr. Steven Roth's lab. Our lab focuses on retinal disorders, such as those that result from complicatoins during certain surgeries, or those that occur after blood has been cut off from the retina (as in stroke, for example). I plan on going to graduate school in neuroscience next year. Besides science, I love hanging out with my friends and family, basketball and running, reading science books, non-fiction books, novels, and watching tv and movies!

A738: EYEBALLS!!! An Introduction to Vision and Perception. in Cascade! Winter 2011 (Jan. 25, 2011)
What's the difference between seeing and perceiving something? Why can't humans see well in the dark? What are eyes made of? How did eyes evolve? This class will cover the basics of vision and perception through anatomy and evolution. We can explore how deep sea fish evolved different visual systems, or how sunlight eventually becomes a visual perception, or even learn what happens as a person goes blind. Students will also be able to influence the course topics. Have a question about vision? We'll answer it! Want to know how a real scientist studies vision? Ask me! We will also be able to discuss the process of scientific research, and learn how scientists came up with answers to all these questions, and how someday you could discover answers too!

A498: B7: Brains!!! - An Introduction to Neuroscience in Cascade! Fall 2009 (Oct. 20, 2009)
Have you ever wondered what secrets of being human are hidden right behind our eyes, inside our brains? That is what neuroscience is all about!!! This class will cover as much information on brains as possible, including a brief history of each topic and a short discussion of recent or ground-breaking experiments. You will have an introduction to the major fields of neuroscience and have an idea of the experimental techniques used by real scientists. By performing an actual, hands-on brain dissection, you will learn about anatomy, cellular neurobiology, developmental neurobiology, and systems neuroscience!!!

S402: Introduction to Neuroscience in Splash! Fall 2009 (Oct. 03, 2009)
We will be exploring the exciting field of neuroscience!!! The class will cover as much information as possible, including a brief history of each topic and a short discussion of recent or ground breaking experiments. This way the students will have an introduction to the major fields of neuroscience and have an idea of the experimental techniques used by real scientists. The student will learn about anatomy, cellular neurobiology, developmental neurobiology, and systems neuroscience, including brain dissections!!!
