Brief Biographical Sketch:
Shir started dancing when she was 5 years old, at the local Ballet Studio. After being inspired by Catherine Zeta Jones in the movie Chicago, she expanded her dance style to include Jazz and Hip hop. Since then she has been dancing in musicals, on dance teams and at dance studios. For the past two years in a row, she won 1st place with the University of Chicago Raas team, an indian dance team, and before that won Judge's favorite for energy and style at a local competition back home in California. Now studying math and computer science at the University of Chicago, Shir continues to dance deriving inspiration from her peers, youtube, and performances alike. This class will give an overview of several different genres of dance including ballet, contemporary, bollywood and hip hop.
A960: Intermediate Dance in Splash! Fall 2012 (Oct. 06, 2012)
This class will give an overview of lyrical and contemporary dance.
A770: Introduction to Dance in Splash! Fall 2011 (Oct. 01, 2011)
This class will be a crash course in a bunch of different styles of dance. We will learn about ballet, jazz, modern, a little bit of Indian dance (Bhangra and Bollywood) and finish off with some Hip Hop.
A771: Intermediate Dance in Splash! Fall 2011 (Oct. 01, 2011)
This course is for those who have danced before. We will focus a little more on technique, and choreography will be a little more advanced. Focus will be on Ballet, Jazz and Hip Hop.
A551: Introductory Dance in Splash! Fall 2010 (Oct. 02, 2010)
We'll learn the very basics of Ballet, Jazz, and Contemporary dance.
A552: Intermediate Dance in Splash! Fall 2010 (Oct. 02, 2010)
We will cover ballet, jazz and contemporary dance.
After an extensive muscle toning warm-up, we will do a few ballet exercises at the bar, followed by a short adagio (slow ballet combinations). Then we will venture into the world of jazz dance and learn a few fun combinations across the floor, including but not limited to the jazz walk, the six step, and a few exciting jumps. We will end with some challenging choreography, a contemporary dance.
