Brief Biographical Sketch:
My interest in theater began at the age of 3, with my stunning pre-school portrayal of "the Duck with Squeaky Feet." Since then, I have studied theater and acting for over a decade, and am currently writing my BA thesis on Shakespeare and Evil. In my free time, I fight crime-literary crime, that is. This class will survey female characters in Shakespeare, looking at the different portrayals of women and how they change over the course of his career. It will serve both as a brief introduction to Shakespeare studies and an in-depth look at the role of women in particular. Class will be primarily a discussion, although we will also explore the topic by reading from the plays and looking at images of particular characters. Some familiarity with Shakespeare (i.e. have read at least one of his plays), is helpful, but not required.
