Brief Biographical Sketch:

Ashley was born and raised in Louisville, pronounced Looavul, Kentucky and has a passion for writing. Her breakout prose poem, "Swimmy," written in Mrs. Burch's third grade class about her now deceased goldfish, won her a yellow ribbon and critical acclaim from PTA moms throughout the school.

Since then, Ashley has continued writing, though her poetry now usually doesn't include fish and, instead, deals with birds and stuff, because hey, birds are pretty cool.

Now twenty, Ashley pursues English at UChicago. When she's not writing, or on the internet buying brightly colored sneakers and quirky tees, you can find her holed up somewhere reading and reciting poems to herself.

L1161: So You Want to be a Poet? - Composing Found Poetry in Splash! Fall 2013 (Oct. 05, 2013)
Have you ever thought writing a poem is hard? Would you believe that it isn’t? In this class, students will write found poems – poems that are composed from already existing, non-poetic texts. Together, we will discuss the genre of poetry and how even the newspaper sitting on the table can be a source for beautiful and meaningful poems. By the end of the class, students will leave with a poem of their own to share with the people around them.
