How do cells feel, taste, and see the physical world around them? In this class, we will explore the strange and beautiful world of ion channels, membrane proteins that respond to physical and chemical stimuli in their environment and trigger massive electrical events in the cell.
Our discussion will cover general principles of biological sensation on macromolecular and cellular length scales, with several specific examples from human sensory systems.
